Supporting Safe, Confident Care in the Community: Kalkoup at Surgical House Training Day

On Thursday 12th June, Kalkoup Community Care was proud to take part in the Care in Community Training Day hosted by Surgical House in Osborne Park. This event brought together nurses, support workers, dietitians, and allied health professionals from across WA to connect, upskill, and share knowledge — all with a common goal: to deliver safer, more confident care in our communities.

Our very own Siobhan Hegarty, Clinical Nurse Consultant at Kalkoup, led a practical, hands-on training session on tracheostomy care. Her session was designed to empower health professionals working in the community with real-life, clinically safe strategies they can implement with confidence.

“The focus was not just on the ‘how-to,’ but on why holistic trache care matters — from equipment and airway safety through to skin integrity and infection prevention,” Siobhan said.

This important session was proudly supported by QV Skincare and Mun Australia, helping to highlight the critical role of skincare and appropriate PPE when delivering tracheostomy care in home and community settings.

Attendees also benefited from a wealth of knowledge delivered by some of the leading voices in nutrition and wound care:

  • Nutricia and Nestlé Health Science shared expert insights on enteral feeding, including nutritional planning and updated product options for those requiring feeding support in the home.

  • HARTMANN GROUP MoliCare Australia’s Tracey Barry delivered a comprehensive session on pressure injuries and wound care management, equipping clinicians with knowledge to recognise, treat, and prevent skin breakdown.

Of course, no community event is complete without a moment to celebrate — and we loved joining in the fun of a surprise morning tea for Ronnie and Kavita’s birthdays! 🎂 Attendees were treated to cake and lolly bags, capping off a day of learning with a touch of sweetness.

At Kalkoup, we believe in showing up for our sector — not just in homes, but in shared spaces like these where learning, collaboration and community care come together.

We’d like to extend a big thank you to Surgical House, our fellow presenters, and everyone who took the time to attend. These events are more than training — they’re a reminder that we’re stronger together.
